Good To Know Before You Go
- Altitude & Acclimatization
- Leh is located at an altitude of approximately 3,500 metres (11,500 ft). It is important to take it easy on the first day and allow your body time to acclimatize. Avoid strenuous activity and drink plenty of water.
- Stay Hydrated
The high-altitude air is very dry. Drinking water regularly helps prevent headaches and fatigue. - Pace Yourself
Walk slowly, avoid running or climbing stairs too quickly, especially on the first couple of days. - Sun Protection
The sun is strong in Ladakh due to the altitude. Carry sunscreen, sunglasses and a hat to protect yourself from the sun. - Layered Clothing
Even in summer months like June and July, temperatures can vary widely. Days are pleasant but evenings and nights can be chilly, especially near Pangong Lake. Carry light woollens and a windproof jacket. - Connectivity
Mobile networks in Ladakh are limited. Postpaid connections (Airtel, Jio, BSNL) work best. Prepaid SIM cards from outside Ladakh generally do not work. - Cash Availability
ATMs are available in Leh but limited in remote areas like Nubra and Pangong. It is advisable to carry some cash for small purchases and personal expenses. - Respect Local Culture
Ladakh has a deeply spiritual Buddhist culture. When visiting monasteries or villages, dress modestly and respect local customs. - Weather & Roads
Mountain travel is subject to weather and road conditions. Occasional changes in the itinerary may occur due to safety or road closures.
